The Ultimate Drug In Business - #ASKGARYVEE

Readers Are Leaders. If you are not educating yourself constantly, someone else will pass you by. Deep down, I really wish I started reading earlier. Of course, that mantra is something everyone says, right?

I hated to read all through grade school, high school, and college. It probably had something to do with not knowing what I was truly passionate about. It wasn't until my former mentor gave me the book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki in my senior year of college that it all started to change.

"Ok, I want to be an entrepreneur, but I have no idea what I want to sink my whole life into", I thought to myself after reading it. The only thing I knew a small fraction about was real estate. Hell, even Lex Luther harped on about real estate!

At 23, I got my real estate license, bought a 4 unit building, and willed my way through a field of landmines. Truth be told, the school of hard knocks was a lot more expensive than I thought it ever would be. Being a hard-headed kid from Pittsburgh, Pa, maybe it was the only way I would ever learn.

Today as I was reading #AskGaryVee, which is our Book of The Week by Gary Vaynerchuk, he talks about the importance of self-esteem not only in our society, but also as an entrepreneur. He calls it the ULTIMATE DRUG. I love how he put it. You know, the only thing that got me through court battles with tenants, dealing with slimy people, and being lied to from people I looked up to, was my unshakeable self-esteem. It was the notion that no matter what happens today, I will win tomorrow. Someway, somehow.

We live in a world where most people are tearing each other down in order to get ahead. It is for that very reason as to why self-esteem is truly the most important characteristic a person must have if they want to go against the current.

Self-esteem is the ultimate high and no one can take that away from you. Once you find it, don't ever let it go.

Throughout this entire journey, there are 3 things I do to keep my self-esteem running on all 8 cylinders:

1. Keep Building Towards Something I Am Proud Of (In Business and Personal Life)

2. Adding Value to Those Around Me.

3. Constant Education through Books and Writing.

These are my MUST-HAVES in life. I would love to hear yours. Please write to me at mfallat@dreamstarterspgh.com and let me know how you keep your self-esteem pumping.

Thanks for reading,

Mike
